The Alliance for Octopus in Yucatán, A.C. is a civil society organization founded in 2019 with the purpose of promoting the sustainability of regional fisheries through scientific research, intersectoral dialogue, and collaborative action with coastal communities, the business sector, and public institutions.

Since its creation, it has coordinated the Yucatan Octopus Fishery Improvement Project (FIP:10470 – Mexico Yucatan Octopus – Drift Rod and Line) in the Campeche Bank region, coordinating efforts among key stakeholders to improve the environmental, economic, and social performance of the fishery.

The Alliance promotes lines of work focused on:

• Evaluation of ecological and socioeconomic indicators.

• Promotion of good fishing practices.

• Strengthening local capacities for participatory fisheries monitoring through the use of appropriate technologies, scientific tools, and collaborative reporting schemes.

• Capacity building in human and labor rights within the fishing sector.

• Dissemination of knowledge for evidence-based decision-making.

• Influencing public policies to strengthen fisheries management.

• Quantitative research on IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing, including the analysis of social and labor risks in fishing supply chains, with the aim of developing prevention, transparency, and traceability strategies.
